The Department for Health and Ageing through the Office for the Ageing (OFTA) is responsible for the administration of the Retirement Villages Act 1987 (the Act) and the Retirement Villages Regulations 2006 (the Regulations).
Over the past three years the State Government has worked with retirees, operators, property developers and Members of Parliament to improve the current Act, and strike the right balance between the needs of residents and operators. The Retirement Villages Act 2016 completed the Parliamentary process in November 2016 and the Retirement Village Regulations 2017 are due to be published in the coming weeks. This new legislation is intended for commencement in January 2018.
OFTA will be conducting a series of information sessions in late August 2017. These sessions aim to provide attendees with a broad overview of the incoming legislation and any changes that may affect prospective residents, residents and operators of retirement villages.
