COTA SA warmly welcomes today’s election promise from the Malinauskas Labor Government which aligns with COTA SA’s advocacy to remove the work cap for Seniors Card eligibility.
COTA SA Chief Executive Miranda Starke says we are pleased that the Labor party has listened to COTA SA’s advocacy and the expansion of Seniors Card eligibility is a positive and important step to allow more older South Australians to access the range of benefits and discounts, which includes free 24/7 Adelaide Metro public transport.
“Expanding the eligibility of the Seniors Card is something that COTA SA has advocated for in our 2026 State Election platform and we are pleased to see the Labor party recognise the importance of ensuring the benefits of the Seniors Card can reach more older South Australians,” Miranda says.
“We know that the rising cost-of-living is hitting many older South Australians hard. Many people are working longer out of financial necessity, and today’s decision acknowledges those changing realities.
“Removing the work cap is a simple change that would make a big difference to the cost of living for thousands more older South Australians.”
Labor says that this expansion would assist an estimated 80,000 additional older South Australians to access the benefits of the Seniors Card. The plan will also see the Seniors Card be made available to Aboriginal South Australians aged 50 or older.
