Make a difference — current volunteer vacancies

Are you ready to make a difference?

We are seeking the support of passionate and dedicated volunteers. Our current volunteer opportunities are listed below — these vary depending on current programs and needs so please do check back often, follow us on social media, subscribe to our E-newsletter or contact us for more information.

COTA Visitors — Make a difference in someone's life

COTA Visitors are volunteers who visit someone with limited companionship on a regular basis, to establish and maintain an ongoing friendship. Loneliness affects 20% of South Australians aged 75 and over and they can feel especially marginalised and out-of-touch in our modern online and busy world.

COTA Visitors is part of the Community Visitors Scheme — an Australian Government initiative that provides friendly volunteers for older people who are at risk of loneliness or social isolation.

Location

We recruit and support volunteer visitors in the Adelaide metropolitan area, the Mid North and the Hills, Mallee and Southern (Fleurieu Peninsula) areas.

We are currently seeking volunteers to visit people waiting for a new friend across the metropolitan area and in Strathalbyn, Murray Bridge and Spalding. We also call on volunteers in the Eastern suburbs to visit residents at Regis Burnside on Booth Avenue, Linden Park.

Language

As well as English-speaking people, we are also seeking volunteers who speak Italian, Greek or French.

An Italian-speaking woman is also sought to share coffee and Italian foods and activities with a group of Italian residents.

Common interests

You might have a common interest with one of the residents such as fashion, pets, gardening or sports. We are specifically seeking a chess player to visit on a Wednesday afternoon.

Volunteer visitors are matched to older people with similar backgrounds and shared interests, and are supported by COTA SA — even if you don't fit the criteria above we'd love to hear from you as we receive new requests for visitors regularly.
