1 October is the United Nations International Day of Older Persons (IDOP). On this day we celebrate the important and valuable contributions that older people make in our community, as well as hearing directly from Older South Australians about their ageing experience and highlighting challenges they face to ageing well.

Ageing well isn't about staying the same, it's about growing into who you will become

2025 International Day of Older Persons

We were delighted to celebrate IDOP 2025 and kicking off SA’s Week of Ageing Well with our free, flagship, intergenerational event, Ageing well in public (and private) life. This year, we welcomed Natasha Stott Despoja AO as our keynote speaker. The event was opened by The Hon Nat Cook MP, Minister for Seniors and Ageing Well.

As the youngest woman elected to the Australian Parliament at just 26, and the youngest leader of a political party at 32, Natasha Stott Despoja is someone who has often been defined by her age. Now aged in her fifties, she has had a significant influence on politics and Australian society for thirty years. Just how does someone whose public identity was so distinctly shaped by their youth, adapt to new stages of life and ageing in the public eye? Natasha addressed these questions - and more.
