With Labor returned to government in a historic result, our attention now turns to making sure they keep their election promises and continue to listen to older South Australians.
With the vote count continuing, including in the Legislative Council, what is already clear is that we are entering a transformed political landscape. We’ve seen a shift away from the two major party system that we are so familiar with, with some sharp divides in sentiment and voting behaviour between the inner metropolitan, outer suburbs and regional areas.
We’d love to hear how you feel about this election result. We want to know what factors most influenced your vote and what you think this means for COTA SA as the peak body advocating for your rights and interests.
We invite you to take a few minutes to complete our short State Election survey. Your insights help us to remain a strong, non partisan advocate for older South Australians. By sharing your thoughts with us, you help us to ensure our work is guided by what matters most to you, so the lived experiences of older people continues to shape government policy and services across the state.
In times like this, independent voices become even more important. We
will continue to hold the Government to account on key commitments made
during the election campaign. This includes areas we highlighted in our
election platform, such as broadening access to the Patient Assistance
Transport Scheme (PATS), expanding the Seniors Card program by removing
the work cap, and increased investment in dementia support.
Free
ambulance services for South Australians on the full aged pension,
cost-of-living life navigation support, housing, domestic violence and
regional transport also remain critical priorities, and we will continue
to push for meaningful action and reform.
We look forward to
working with the Malinauskas Government – and all members of Parliament -
to make life better for older South Australians, and to advocate for
change where it is needed most.
