Our Climate Change Group members share stories and information that they find useful with the hope that you will find it useful too! This time, the group shares information about how your superannuation and investments can help combat climate change.
As the residents of Northern New South Wales and Queensland know, extreme weather events are increasing in intensity. Bushfires have already had a huge impact in Victoria this summer.
South Australia is also likely to experience drier and hotter summers and colder and drier winters in the years ahead.
Some of our Climate Change Group members have been talking to their superannuation funds and to investment companies in which they have shares about how their decisions affect climate change.
Our members have asked those companies about practical issues where climate change directly affects older people - for example:
- How are investments helping to reduce carbon emissions?
- How do funds balance the need for strong returns with the responsibility to address climate risks?
- Are they investing in housing to help ease pressure on house and rent prices?
Super funds and investment managers often hear from financial analysts, but hearing directly from members provides them with a fresh perspective. It helps them understand the real-life experiences of their members, their concerns and what matters to them.
