With the election coming up you may be considering the best way for you to cast your vote. The good news is that voting is now easier than ever - with a range of options available you can choose the one that works best for you to cast your vote and have your say.

The Electoral Commission SA has all the information you need to know to cast your vote available on their website. As they say in their new campaign, 'Voting. It's a good thing':

  • Vote in person on election day – 21 March 2026
Voting centres will be open on Saturday 21 March from 8:00am to 6:00pm. Electors may vote at any of the 689 polling booths established across the state. Locations of all these voting centres will be available on the ECSA website.
  • Early voting
Anyone can vote early without having to meet any eligibility requirements. Early voting centres will operate across South Australia from Saturday 14 March to Saturday 21 March 2026 (closed Sunday 15 March 2026). Extended hours until 8.00pm will be available on Thursday 19 March 2026. More information is available on the ECSA website.
  • Postal voting
Postal vote applications are open online now, closing 17 March 2026 at 5pm. To check eligibility and apply for a postal vote or eligibility, visit the ECSA website or contact the ECSA call centre on 1300 655 232 if unable to complete an application online. A call centre operator will assist in completing the application.
  • Telephone Assisted Voting (TAV)
This service enables enrolled electors who are blind, sight‑impaired or who cannot vote independently due to motor impairment to vote by phone. TAV will be available from Saturday 14 March to Saturday 21 March 2026 (closed Sunday 15 March 2026). Extended hours until 8.00pm will be available on Thursday 19 March 2026. More information is available on the ECSA website.
  • Voting in a hospital or residential aged care
Residents of selected residential aged care, hospitals, and other similar locations can vote through a visiting mobile polling team or may apply for a postal vote. Mobile polling teams will visit 268 residential aged care facilities; the times and locations for these visits will be coordinated directly with each facility. More information will be available on the ECSA website.
  • Remote mobile voting
Remote Mobile Polling provides services to electors in rural and outback communities who may find it difficult to attend a polling booth on polling day. More information about these regional mobile voting visits will be available on the ECSA website closer to the election.

In addition, accessibility matters and there are supports available to help alleviate barriers to voting. These include:

  • Inclusive locations
ECSA is committed to facilitating a democratic process that is inclusive, respectful, and accessible to all. Three polling locations across Adelaide have been selected to provide an inclusive voting experience, removing some of the barriers that may exist for people with hidden disabilities. These locations will be shared closer to the Election.
  • Support at polling locations
Polling officials are available at each polling location to assist voters if needed. When issuing ballot papers, officials will ask, “Do you need assistance to vote?”. A range of support options are available to help make voting accessible. These include large-print materials, voting screens with bold black outlines, and tabletop voting screens positioned at a suitable height for voters who are seated. Maxi pencils and portable magnifiers are also available.
  • Hidden Disability Sunflower Lanyard Program
ECSA are corporate members of the Hidden Disability Sunflower Lanyard Program, to assist voters with non- visible disabilities. Two ECSA officials will be wearing the support lanyard at each polling location.
  • Voting in your language
“How to enrol and vote” guides are available in 21 languages on the ECSA website. Translation services are also available through telephoning Translation and Interpreting Services – 131 450.

Finally, before you get to the voting station you might want to practice voting online. You can also plan ahead - visit the ECSA website here for their 'Plan your vote' guide.

Visit COTA SA's 2026 State Election page for information on the five key priority actions for older South Australians identified by COTA SA.
