Thousands of people care for frail older people every day with great honour and respect. They form great partnerships with the older people they serve, learning about who they are, what they value and their preferences and needs. They are skilled and conscientious, they believe in what they do and they know that their care is greatly trusted by the older people they serve.
But there are also disturbing examples of abuse by the very people who are trusted to provide care. Mrs Hausler's father is an example. The abusers, sadly, are often people entrusted with their care, as family members, friends or aged care staff.
