Rainbow Rights Toolkit

Welcome to the Rainbow Rights Toolkit! Rainbow rights are human rights, and this toolkit identifies how older LGBTI+ community members can understand and action their rights.

Overcoming discrimination • Housing • Health • Plan ahead

Rainbow rights are human rights, and this toolkit identifies how older LGBTI+ community members can understand and action their rights, as well as providing information to the people who are part of their choices, supports and care.

COTA SA has partnered with the South Australian Government’s Office for Ageing Well to develop this resource and build awareness of state initiatives that safeguard the right of older people, aligned with the Future Directions to Safeguard the Rights of Older South Australians 2023-2027.

Access the Toolkit

This toolkit aims to empower LGBTI+ communities, in all their diversity, to assert and safeguard their rights over a lifetime. It brings together in one place the relevant rights and the laws and services that protect the rights of LGBTI+ people in South Australia.

You can search for information under key human rights themes including: Overcoming discrimination, Housing, Health and Plan Ahead. Or, you may find it easier to learn about your rights according to your life stage or planning for your next chapter.

The toolkit is in the form of an interactive PDF which you can download to have available when you need it.

Rainbow Rights in Conversation

We're pleased to be able to share the Rainbow Rights in Conversation podcast and video series, live and ready for you to listen and watch now!

The podcast is available to listen through Apple Podcasts and Spotify, and the video interviews are available on our YouTube channel.

Hosted by Julie McCrossin AM, these interviews with local LGBTQIA+ advocates build on discussions from COTA SA’s Rainbow Rights Forum, where we launched the Rainbow Rights Toolkit, and provide accessible, in-depth insights into ageing well as a rainbow person.

Each interview explores one of the pillars of the Rainbow Rights Toolkit in depth- Health, Housing, Overcoming Discrimination and Planning Ahead.

We encourage you to explore the podcast and video series and share them with rainbow community members and allies.

The Rainbow Rights project is supported by the South Australian Government’s Office for Ageing Well.
