More than 900 delegates came together for the 2023 Better Together Conference at Adelaide Convention Centre over two days in February, to explore current issues facing the LGBTIQA+ movement in Australia.
As part of the 2023 national LGBTIQA+ conference, now in its fifth year, COTA SA’s Rainbow Hub co-hosted the workshop ‘South Australian LGBTI+ organisations coming together better’ with the South Australian Rainbow Advocacy Alliance (SARAA).
Jackie Wurm, Rainbow Hub Project Officer, said representatives from 20 organisations shared their priorities for 2023 and suggestions for collaboration and funding opportunities at the workshop.
“Importantly, we presented and discussed COTA SA’s Silver Rainbow aged care awareness training that assists organisations to provide safe and inclusive care for older LGBTIQ+ people, and look forward to collaborating with several organisations from the Yorke and Northern Local Health Network as a result.”

Jackie also presented preliminary findings of COTA SA’s Ranbow Horizons project — an important initiative designed to create greater cross-generational support in relation to end of life planning, care and dying. Read more about Rainbow Horizons.
“We were also grateful to attend a presentation on the experiences of the Australian LGBTIQ Multicultural Council’s Palliative Care research project and look forward to further discussions about possible future collaboration or engagement,” says Jackie.
“The conference was a great success — not only did COTA SA’s Rainbow Hub have the opportunity to widen our reach and share our information, but we are looking forward to welcoming many new LGBTI+ into the fold.
