Seniors on Board

Public transport can open up a world of possibility for an older person and building the confidence to plan a journey and make the most of public transport can be all it takes to start exploring your local neighbourhood, the city and beyond!

Having the confidence to use public transport to move around, visit friends and family or enjoy an outing doesn't come naturally to everyone. Seniors on Board is designed to build confidence and improving public transport use for older South Australians, and also help service providers to offer a valuable and enjoyable experience for older users.

The project incorporates two areas.

Seniors on Board information session

Co-designed with older people, the free information sessions offer practical how-to knowledge and ideas about how to make the most of using public transport.

The session includes:

  • Accessing travel information using technology, a paper timetable or a phone call
  • What to consider when planning a trip
  • Ways to enjoy the journey
  • The benefits of public transport — including travelling for free!
  • Accessibility services
  • Learning how to use public transport as an alternative to driving.

As a participant, you will receive:

  • Local information on where to access timetables and recharge cards
  • A Journey Planner
  • The opportunity to book a practice journey on a bus, train, or tram with a Peer Educator. This is for people who wish to build their confidence and familiarity with using public transport.
