Where can you go to stay cool when home gets too hot?

20 January 26

Our Climate Change Group members share stories and information that they find useful with the hope that you will find it useful too! This time, they’re sharing ideas on where you can go to stay cool in hot weather.

Finding relief from spells of extreme heat can be tough. The cost of electricity to run air-conditioning can be prohibitive.

Many community centres, libraries and sporting hubs are stepping up to provide welcoming, air‑conditioned environments for the community during heatwaves.

This includes venues throughout the City of Unley, City of Campbelltown and City of Port Adelaide Enfield, City of West Torrens and City of Charles Sturt all of which are offering Cool Spaces.

A Cool Space is air‑conditioned public area where you can escape the heat and stay safe during extreme temperatures. These spaces typically offer access to drinking water, toilets, power outlets and other helpful amenities, along with activities or comfortable seating. They are designed to be welcoming drop‑in places for anyone needing respite from the heat.

The COTA SA Climate Change Group is interested in hearing about your favourite places to go to when it’s really hot. Are they friend’s places, libraries, shopping centres, community centres, swimming centres, cafes, or other cool spaces?
