Exercise and Parkinson Disease - Karel's story

"I was very, very happy to see that all my efforts were helping and hope that I can continue with the gym work for the long term."

Following being diagnosed with Parkinson disease, Karel increased her regular gym sessions from two to six a week and attends Strength for Life along with a variety of other sessions at Blackwood Community Recreation Centre. A physio who specialises in Parkinsons gave Karel specific strengthening exercises which, with the assistance of the trainers, she does during her Strength for Life classes at the gym. She has also found boxercise particularly beneficial.

Karel also shares that "The sense of community which the Rec Centre offers is amazing to my wellbeing."
