COTA SA is proud to celebrate the UN International Day of Older Persons (IDOP) on Wednesday 1 October, and to kick off SA’s Week of Ageing Well with our free, flagship, intergenerational event that shines a light on living and ageing well.
This year, we are delighted to welcome Natasha Stott Despoja AO as our keynote speaker. We are very pleased that the event will be opened by The Hon Nat Cook MP, Minister for Seniors and Ageing Well.
As the youngest woman elected to the Australian Parliament at just 26, and the youngest leader of a political party at 32, Natasha Stott Despoja is someone who has often been defined by her age. Now aged in her fifties, she has had a significant influence on politics and Australian society for thirty years. Just how does someone whose public identity was so distinctly shaped by their youth, adapt to new stages of life and ageing in the public eye?
Natasha embodies the idea that identity is less about age and more about how we choose to contribute, lead, learn and evolve as individuals. She brings a rich perspective on ageing, identity and purpose, shaped by decades of leadership in politics, diplomacy, and advocacy, and living in the public eye. Her story reflects the depth that comes with experience and the ongoing process of reshaping who we are throughout our lives.
In her keynote address at IDOP, Natasha will reflect on life inside and beyond public office - from caring for ageing parents and raising young adult children, to redefining herself outside the political spotlight. Join us for an inspiring conversation to celebrate getting older and contributing meaningfully through every stage of life.
Registrations open at 9:30am for a 10am start until 12:30pm.
Free event. Morning tea included.
