COTA SA response to coronavirus, COVID-19 - July 2020 Update
COVID-19 continues to pose a very real threat to our community.
COTA SA has a responsibility to do all we can to contribute to efforts to stop the spread of the virus and to minimise risks to our employees, volunteers and community.
We continue to monitor developments and follow the advice and directions of federal and state health officials, including an acknowledgement that older people, and people with pre-existing medical conditions, are more vulnerable to becoming severely ill as a result of COVID-19.
We also recognise that some of the changes made to increase public safety and reduce transmission may increase the risk of loneliness and isolation for many older people.
In weighing these facts, and taking into account the low level of infection currently reported in South Australia, COTA SA will continue to review our COVID-19 response.
As at July 2020, COTA SA has resumed -
- Face to face activities, including employee meetings and visits for volunteers with older people in their homes.
- Public events, including with community groups, provided they comply with all requirements including social distancing, hygiene and tracing measures.
COTA SA will do all we can to offer a range of options to interact with older people including by telephone, letter or online. We respect the choice of older people to decide the extent to which they will engage in face to face activities.
While COTA SA is continuing to operate as a remote workplace prior to moving into our new office in October 2020, we are fully operational and able to undertake our full range of functions and responsibilities.
We will keep reviewing our approach and exploring new ways to engage with older people, and to keep our COTA SA community informed and connected.
