Welcome to 2019

Wishing you a happy new year

It's going to be another big year and we'll be hitting the ground running with some new faces and new opportunities.

Reaching and involving older South Australians living in country areas will be a major priority for us this year. We've already extended the reach of our programs and now have 26 volunteers who live outside metro Adelaide - stay tuned for new developments.

After an exciting first year The Plug-in, which finds ways for older people to influence the future, will be under new leadership. The influencer community has grown fast and we look forward to new projects for this group to get stuck into in 2019.

Our modern ageing festival, ZestFest, will be back in 2019 kicking off during SALA and then partnering with others to deliver events to challenge, connect and celebrate ageing all over the state from 14-28 October.

Strength for Life continues to grow having received additional State Government support to extend its reach especially to people from CALD, ATSI, country and low income backgrounds.

Guided by our Advisory Group and partner organisations, COTA SA will continue to build our capacity to reach older LGBTI people in a variety of ways, including as the SA lead for the Silver Rainbow training program, and via new funding for a community visitors scheme with older LGBTI people.

Our COTA SA Policy Council has recently recruited new members and they, along with specialist think tanks, will support our advocacy for affordable housing, equitable and accessible health, an end to employment discrimination and better recognition of rural people.

COTA SA will again collaborate with our colleagues across the COTA Federation to highlight the findings of 2018 The State of the (Older) Nation national survey and undertake our second annual survey later in 2019.

2019 will see some other key events happening in Australia. The first half of the year will see a Federal Election and we will work with COTA Australia to contribute to the platform and, as always, we welcome your input. Also this year will be the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety with the first public hearing on 18th January in Adelaide. We would encourage people to stay up to date through the Royal Commission website.

We would love to hear what your priorities are for 2019. COTA SA is an older people's movement, and we welcome comments or suggestions at any time. If you'd like to contact us:
