Building Opportunities for a Lifetime Showcase Event
At the successful Building Opportunities for a Lifetime Showcase Event on 30 August 2017, the Premier of South Australia launched Age of Opportunity: A Policy Framework for the Development of an Ageing Well Industry in South Australia, which highlights the economic opportunities of an ageing population as one of South Australia's greatest resources, and outlines a way for government, industry and the community to collaborate in support of business growth and innovation by tapping into unmet demand for ageing-related products and services, both locally and across the Asia Pacific region.
The Office for the Ageing's Innovation in Social Housing 90 Day Project is as an example of the Age of Opportunity Policy Framework in action. This project brought together older South Australian Housing SA tenants with architects, planners, developers, builders, aged care service providers and government to co-design innovative, age friendly homes and precinct features that enable people to age and live well. The Housing for Life: Designed for Living report sets out the findings and identifies four innovative design principles, which apply to the wider older population. The outcomes of this work are already informing housing developments by the South Australian Government through Renewal SA's 1000 homes in 1000 days program and are now available for the broader housing sector to utilise.
