Opportunity for COTA members to evaluate UniSA communication course
The Research Node for Low Carbon Living at UniSA is part of a large Australian co-operative research centre (CRC) and the CRC management is very aware that if their young researchers are to be effective, they must learn to communicate their research to building professionals and to the community in general.
To attempt to develop this proficiency Dr Judy Ford will work with about 20 PhD students and post-doctoral students over August and September 2016 and she would like COTA members to make the on-line evaluations. If the program is effective, it will be further developed at the University of New South Wales.
As the major evaluated component of the course, each student will produce a short video at the beginning and end of the training period and upload them to the Internet. Evaluators will rate each video on a number of simple criteria that will decide how effectively each student communicates and how much each has improved from the first to the second video, if indeed they do improve as hoped.
COTA SA members who participate in this exercise will remain anonymous. If you are available and interested in watching and rating a total of about 40 x 5 minute videos, please email Robert Andrews at randrews@cotasa.org.au. You won't be asked to evaluate more than 20 videos in a week! When your register we would like you to rate yourself as either group 1: Business owner and/or Senior Manager, group 2: Building Industry Expertise (Builder, Architect, Town Planner, Business Trade and similar professions, group 3: Community member interested in information about low energy living.
